About Our Association

The ECMWF Pensioners’ Association (“PA”) operates under its Rules of Procedure (updated August 2024). Its objectives are complementary to those of the Association of Pensioned Staff of the Co-ordinated Organisations and their Dependents (AAPOCAD).

Membership

Membership consists of all those in receipt of a pension from ECMWF, including widowers, widows, orphans and invalids.

The Pensioners’ Committee

Every two years the PA elects a Pensioners’ Committee to serve as its executive agent. The Committee consists of a President, a Vice-President, a Treasurer and a Secretary. It conducts its business by correspondence or by meetings.

If fewer candidates come forward than there are Committee posts, or if a Committee member is unable to carry out their duties for a significant period, the Committee may co-opt other Members to fill the post.

Purpose of the Committee

The Committee exists to:

• Be an interlocutor between the Members and the Director-General of ECMWF
• Represent and defend the interests of the Members in relation to the Centre, in liaison with the ECMWF Staff Committee when appropriate
• Give its opinion and/or advice to the Director-General, whether consulted or on its own initiative
• Represent the interests of the Members in relation to similar associations of other co-ordinated organisations, and establish links with these associations when appropriate
• Keep the Members informed, so far as possible, of measures affecting their interests as pensioners of ECMWF

Social activity

In addition to the formal roles of the committee, it also organises social activities like walks or outings.
